Outdoor Recreation

Finca Del Mar is situated in an incredibly rich area for outdoor recreation. From bodysurfing at the beach, to surf casting,

Horseback riding along the shore
windsurfing, hiking trails, playing horseshoes, gardening, or horseback riding - our community offers a wide-range of recreational activities to keep you fit and in tune with your surroundings.

Nearby Gran Pacifica is developing a 27-hole golf course, and we are within driving distance of several scenic volcanoes that offer exhilarating hikes.

Birdwatching

Birdwatching is spectacular along our shore, creeks, and mangroves. Hundreds of species of birds are represented here. Early morning offers great sightings of birds of prey such as hawks, including the rare black crab hawk, kites, caracaras in the pasture and forest, trogons, mot-mots, manakins, flycatchers, magpie jays, brightly-colored orioles and cardinals, loud groups of parakeets, anis, cuckoos, woodpeckers hammering in the forests and the coastal hammocks, and after dark, nighthawks and owls.

In the mornings, a variety of colorful hummingbirds will pass your patio as they diligently follow their route of flowers while feeding on nectar.

Preserving the unique habitats of our creeks and estuaries protects a colorful array of endangered species and migratory birds. Across the seasons our shore and wetlands plays host to pelicans, boat billed herons, chachalacas, bitterns, ibis, kingfishers, ducks, and geese.

And we are well-known for the clouds of swallows that pass down the beach in the evening hours during the winter months.

Fishing

Fishing at Finca Del Mar is often an exciting and rewarding challenge. 50-pound snook have been caught right off our beach. You can also cast for bonita, rooster fish, snapper, and pompano among other species. Nothing tastes better than fresh caught seafood prepared on one of our many outdoor grills.

Living with Nature

Our shores are also renown as an egg-hatching zone for green and leatherback turtles. Working with Los Cardones Ecolodge, we protect the nests from poachers through our nighttime coast walks. We work with the local community to protect turtle hatchlings, iguanas, caimans, deer, coyotes, wild cats, and armadillos that make this stretch of Nicaragua such a naturally beautiful place to live.
